Custom where it counts. Efficient everywhere else.
Whimsy is a Lakewood institution: two storefronts, a deep bench of luxury baby brands, and a customer who is usually shopping for a mazel tov and wants it to feel like one. Bringing their baby brand online came with a ceiling, and the honest choice was between a templated site that looked like everyone else's and a custom build that cost more than the project could carry. We took a third route. Motif mapped the site around what Whimsy's shoppers actually need, and spent the custom effort exclusively there: the layette builder, the gifting paths, the brand index, the local delivery story. Everything else was built cleanly and efficiently on Shopify's strengths rather than fought against them. The result reads as bespoke because the parts that carry the experience *are* bespoke. The savings are invisible, which is the point.
A softer, more grown-up whimsy.
The logo stayed as-is; everything around it was rebuilt. We refined the typography, developed a palette of soft, warm neutrals that lets the merchandise carry the color, and set an art direction standard that treats a footie and a bonnet like the small luxuries they are. The category is crowded with sites that go loud and cutesy — pastel overload, tiny fonts, clutter. Whimsy went the other way: generous space, restrained type, calm surfaces, and photography given room to breathe. It looks like the store feels, which is the only brief that ever mattered here.
